This was an outing that he had always been denied whenever Reno had sneaked him out when they were younger. He had always wanted to go beneath the Plate to see what things were like down there but it had been expressly forbidden. At least, until now. Tseng was away on a mission or something with Rude, Veld was gone, and his father was dead. No one could stop him and Reno going down there now.

He follows Reno down to the service elevator. He knew all the exits to the Shinra Building as well- not that it had helped him when he was younger since somehow Veld had been able to sense when and where Rufus would make an escape attempt next. But no one appeared as they exited the building into the cool night air and Rufus takes a deep breath, savoring the freedom.

"I hope we're not taking a company car."
